August 20th, 2007 / News

Vancouver, BC (August 20, 2007) – The Vancouver Convention & Exhibition Centre (VCEC) has added a key member to its team as the facility’s major expansion project continues to progress towards completion.

Andrea Horton has been appointed Director of Human Resources, where she is responsible for the development and implementation of all human resources strategies and processes including recruitment, training, organizational development, and employee communications leading to expansion and successful post-expansion operations.

“Andrea is a creative, energetic, and results-focused human resources leader, and we are very pleased to have her on board,” said Barbara Maple, VCEC President. “She has an excellent track record in workplace planning and team building, which is crucial to our organization with expansion completing in less than two years time.”
With more than 15 years of human resources experience, Andrea joins the VCEC from her role as Human Resources Director at Cossette West, where she led all of the HR strategies and programs for the western regional office. Before joining Cossette, Andrea was Director of People Resources for the Delta Hotels & Resorts at three of the Delta properties, and prior to that she held several human resource roles at The Personnel Department.

Andrea holds an MBA in Human Resources Management from Royal Roads University and a Bachelor of Arts degree from Queen’s University.

About the VCEC

In fiscal year 2007, the VCEC hosted 350 events and 745,000 delegate days, and generated more than $240 million in economic impact for the province of B.C. When its major expansion completes, the VCEC will offer a combined total of nearly 500,000 square feet of function space and will serve as the Main Media Centre for the Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games in 2010.
