Vancouver, BC (September 19, 2019) – The Vancouver Convention Centre and Tourism Vancouver are excited to welcome over 3,300 sleep health professionals to World Sleep 2019 taking place in Vancouver from September 20 – 25, 2019. Critical to leading a healthy lifestyle, sleep and our understanding of sleep health are immensely relevant to millions of people worldwide who suffer from related disorders, often without knowing.
Organized by World Sleep Society in collaboration with the Canadian Sleep Society, World Sleep 2019 will bring specialists representing more than 75 countries to the Convention Centre to advance current medical and scientific thinking as well as promote awareness around sleep health and disorders. This event is expected to contribute approximately $17 million in direct spending to the Vancouver economy.
“This will be the largest international sleep meeting ever held,” says Dr. Charles Morin, President of the World Sleep Society. “This meeting will showcase some of the best sleep researchers in the world, presenting new scientific findings that will benefit both health care practitioners and the general public.”
Held every two years, the six-day Congress offers a worldwide platform for sleep professionals to collaborate and learn with peers, as well as participate in an expansive and interactive program focussed on the latest in research and developments in the field.
This year will also feature a learning and awareness component open to the general public, Sleep Expo 2019, September 21 and 22 that is free to attend. Local visitors can engage with international experts to increase their understanding of sleep health and how to recognize sleep disorders that may be impacting their own lives.
2019 is a record year for international conventions at the Vancouver Convention Centre. The World Sleep Congress is one of 17 taking place throughout the year and has the second-largest attending delegate group after Women Deliver in June. The Convention Centre hosts upwards of 550 events a year, including conventions, trade and consumer shows, meetings, banquets, community events and special events.
