Vancouver Convention Centre unveils commemorative space honouring the Invictus Games Vancouver Whistler 2025

September 30th, 2025 / News

The installation celebrates the Invictus spirit and the heritage of the Four Host Nations

VANCOUVER, BC, (September 29, 2025) – Earlier today, PavCo and the Vancouver Convention Centre officially unveiled a commemorative space dedicated to the historic legacy and First Nations identity of the Invictus Games Vancouver Whistler 2025 (IG25).

The Convention Centre served as a host venue for IG25, along with BC Place, which brought hundreds of competitors, families, supporters and volunteers to British Columbia this past February. The installation was designed to honour the courage, triumph and unity of wounded, injured and/or ill service members, internationally, who participated in the Games.

“The Games were a powerful example of resilience and community,” said Craig Lehto, General Manager of the Vancouver Convention Centre. “We are proud to preserve the event’s legacy through this dedicated space at the Vancouver Convention Centre – a tribute to both the significance of the Games and the leadership of the Four Host Nations.”

The public space showcases captivating photos, facts and stories from the eight-day event that welcomed over 37,000 visitors and 550 athletes from 25 nations to BC. It also features the iconic IG25 medals, gifted to the Convention Centre by the event’s organizing committee. These medals and the brand identity of the Games were beautifully designed by Four Host Nations artists: Levi Nelson (Lil’wat Nation), Mack Paul (Musqueam Indian Band), Ray Natraoro (Squamish Nation) and Olivia George (Tsleil-Waututh Nation).

"As one of the artists who contributed to the distinct brand elements of the Games, it’s a profound honour to see our work displayed in a space that celebrates the power of sport, IG25 and our Indigenous roots,” said Levi Nelson, Lil’wat Nation artist and designer of the medals.

The IG25 installation is now part of The Convention Centre’s Coast Salish Gallery, located within the Harbour Concourse between the venue’s West and East buildings. The gallery features several works by First Nations artists, including Susan Point (Musqueam Indian Band), Debra Sparrow (Musqueam Indian Band), Joseph Wilson (Cowichan Tribes), Chris Paul (Tsartlip Nation) and more. It also includes a space that commemorates the 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games – and now celebrates two successful and defining events in BC and Canada’s sport hosting history.

“I love what IG25 brought to the community and in turn, what the community wholeheartedly gave to the Games,” said Assunta Aquino, Team Canada competitor and IG25 gold medallist in alpine skiing. “Invictus, along with our great province, gave veterans from all corners of the earth the opportunity to find strength through the strength of others. You’ve changed our lives – you saved our lives.”

“The Invictus Games Vancouver Whistler 2025 inspired countless lives, and this compelling display helps ensure that inspiration lives on for the competitors, their loved ones, visitors and the generous partners and communities who made it all possible,” said Don Lindsay, IG25 Board Chair. “The Vancouver Convention Centre was a welcoming home and major competition venue — host to some of the Invictus Games 2025’s most memorable moments — and is the perfect place to memorialize this incredibly proud and meaningful chapter for our city, province and country.”
