It’s time for the Vancouver Convention Centre’s living roof to get its annual haircut. This year instead of asking the media to take pictures of lawnmowers going and back and forth across our 6-acre living roof, we decided to do something different – very different.
This year, our mowing of the grassed roof coincides with the month of Movember – you know, that month formerly known as November, where men and women across the globe join together to raise awareness and funds for men’s health; specifically prostate cancer, testicular cancer, poor mental health and physical inactivity. Starting at the grassroots, we worked closely with our landscape contractors, WeedBusters, on a plan to sculpt Canada’s largest moustache from grass. While our moustache may not be visible from space, it measures a whopping 182 feet wide by 45 feet tall!
But time is of the essence. Our moustache will be visible for a very limited period of time. By the November 19, our living roof will be clean shaven once again.
As part of the Vancouver Convention Centre’s corporate social responsibility commitment it is inviting the public to like and share our moustache and help raise about men’s health on social media. Financial contributions towards our Movember fundraising campaign are also welcomed. 83 cents of every dollar (83% of funds raised) goes towards supporting men’s health programs.
