The Annual Canada Day Open House at the Vancouver Convention Centre

Vancouver, BC (June 24, 2016) - Join the thousands of people who come down to Canada Day at Canada Place and visit the Vancouver Convention Centre’s Annual Canada Day Open House in its West Building.

Explore one of Vancouver’s most prized establishments and the world’s first LEED® Platinum-Certified convention centre. It has been host to some of the most renowned and inspiring events in the world. Now they are opening their doors to you, where you can learn about the facility’s many “unconventional” features including its marine habitat and six-acre living roof and participate in a variety of family-fun activities.

All indoor Open House activities will run from 10 am to 6 pm in the West building (1055 Canada Pl.) on July 1.

Highlights include

Hold the World in Your Hands- Come down for the coolest photo-op in the city! We will put our iconic floating globe right in the palms of your hands.

Living Roof – Learn about Canada’s largest living roof that boasts more than 400,000 indigenous plants and grasses from the Pacific Northwest Coastal region. There will be special presentations from landscape architect, Bruce Hemstock, from PWL Partnership, about the design and construction of the “living roof,” throughout the day that will showcase a sample plot of the roof. For the kids, there will be an interactive bug display, coloring station, tattoos and bee family cut out.

Celebration Corner – Relive some of the great moments hosted at the Convention Centre since its opening. The festivities will take place in the exquisite open ballroom – Canada’s largest waterfront ballroom.

Marine Connection – Learn about marine life around the Convention Centre’s marine habitat with special guests from the Vancouver Aquarium. This interactive experience will run from 11am to 4 pm. Expect to see some marine life that’s close enough to touch! Also try your hand at the marine origami station.

Community Corner – Check out all the great work the Vancouver Convention Centre does with the community. This area will feature information about United We Can, which the Vancouver Convention Centre contributes 100% of their beverage recyclables to.

Remembering the Games – Take a journey back to one of Vancouver’s proudest moments and experience the Vancouver Convention Centre’s legacy of the 2010 Olympic games. Test your knowledge in our Olympic trivia game where you can win special prizes and view an inspiring cinematic experience that will take you back to all your favorite Olympic moments.

Brew with a View – Enjoy delicious, family-friendly fare and beautiful mountain and harbour views on the facility’s licensed Pacific Terrace, home to Douglas Coupland’s Digital Orca. Food and beverage, including ice-cold beer and cider, will be available for purchase from 12 pm to 6 pm.

Lighting of the Olympic Cauldron – Watch as the majestic Cauldron is lit to commemorate our country’s birthday at noon and join in on the singing of O Canada!
