Local Hotelier Named General Manager
August 21st, 2008 / NewsVancouver, BC (August 21, 2008) – The BC Pavilion Corporation (PavCo) has announced the appointment of Ken Cretney as the new General Manager of the Vancouver Convention & Exhibition Centre (VCEC) effective October 1st, 2008.
Cretney, who was selected from among a number of candidates from Europe, Asia and North America, is currently the General Manager of Vancouver’s Marriott Pinnacle Hotel and has won several International Marriott General Manager Awards. Prior to joining the Marriott Pinnacle, Cretney managed the Rimrock Resort Hotel in Banff, Alberta for several years, and then joined the Delta Whistler Resort as General Manager, overseeing its conversion to the present-day Hilton Whistler Resort.
“In the end, we decided that Ken was the very best person for the job and we’re glad he also just happens to be from our own backyard,” said Warren Buckley, PavCo’s President and CEO.
“Ken knows our market and city, and he’s recognized as a strategic business leader with a reputation for getting results by developing strong and committed teams. Ken also has an excellent understanding of what it takes to develop new markets, something we’re keen to do with the expansion for the convention centre coming online next spring.”
Responsible for BC Place which opened in 1983, and the Vancouver Convention & Exhibition Centre which opened in 1987, PavCo is a Crown corporation of the Province of British Columbia.
