$15.7M Boost to Downtown Vancouver’s Tourism Industry Expected as one of Vancouver’s Largest International Conferences Returns

August 5th, 2022 / News

SIGGRAPH 2018, Vancouver Convention CentreAugust 5, 2022 (Vancouver) – Downtown Vancouver’s tourism and hospitality industry is about to experience an estimated $15.7M boost as one of the city’s largest international conferences, SIGGRAPH 2022 (August 8-11), will be returning next week.

SIGGRAPH 2022 is anticipating approximately 5,000 attendees – the largest international conference in Vancouver since the onset of COVID-19 – for the premier conference for computer graphics and interactive techniques at the Vancouver Convention Centre (Convention Centre), with many more participating virtually.

“We love coming to Vancouver,” says Munkhtsetseg Nandigjav, SIGGRAPH 2022 Conference Chair. “The computer graphics industry in Vancouver has certainly made a global impact, and it’s a privilege to hold our annual conference in one of the world’s most beautiful cities.”

This will be the Convention Centre’s fourth time hosting SIGGRAPH since 2011 – adding to 2022’s reputation as the comeback year for conferences, conventions and events in Vancouver.

“When conference and event attendees come to Vancouver, they have a significant impact on local businesses that are part of our visitor economy,” Dave Gazley, Vice President, Meeting & Convention Sales, at Destination Vancouver says. “In addition to the positive economic and social benefits, it’s also an opportunity for delegates from around the world to experience Vancouver and leave as ambassadors of our city, bringing their memorable travel experiences back to their family and friends.”

“Vancouver has a vibrant community of creatives and events like SIGGRAPH are an opportunity for locals and international visitors to see Vancouver as a hub for computer graphics and technology,” says Claire Smith, VP of Sales and Marketing for the Vancouver Convention Centre. “We couldn’t be more thrilled to welcome SIGGRAPH back to the Vancouver Convention Centre with enhanced health and safety measures.”

To welcome SIGGRAPH attendees safely, the Convention Centre has hand sanitizer stations conveniently located throughout the facility, plenty of space for physical distancing and enhanced cleaning protocols in place.

There’s still time to register for SIGGRAPH! With exciting exhibitions, demonstrations, presentations, unveilings, and Featured Speaker sessions from world-leading innovators, experience the future of the computer graphics industry at SIGGRAPH.

Update August 9, 2022: attendance for SIGGRAPH 2022 is projected to be more than 9,000 attendees.
