Meeting planning is known to be one of the most stressful jobs in the world (careercast.com) because we have pressure from multiple stakeholder groups and are reliant on others to deliver our vision. It require an ability to be adept at all levels of communication, physical endurance, mental agility and a passion for what you are creating. Here are some ways you can help manage your own stress.
1. Eat well and hydrate
Lots of water, and follow the 80/20 rule – if you eat well 80% of the time then when you have the inevitable hospitality functions or friends and family dinners, relax and eat what you like.
2. Exercise
For some of you this may be the gym or a long walk (with or without a puppy), for others kick-boxing or dance. It doesn’t matter what you do – but for your stress management, movement is critical.
3. White space
Whatever this means to you, finding time and space where you don’t have to think about anything specific is critical to those of us who are expected to deliver experiences. From meditation, to a long soak or shower, to a nature walk – you pick.
4. Share gratitude
It has been proven time and again that when we look for the positive, we are more likely to find it on a regular basis. A journal, a jar, a social call out or a text to a friend to say thank you – any level is a good start.
5. Laugh
A movie, a chat with a friend, a funny memory – whatever it takes.
6. Support and be supported
Join an association or invite some friends for a monthly snack and support.
7. Stay curious
We live in an amazing world in times that could not have been predicted – be inspired by all that is out there.
