Olympic cauldron to become permanent fixture

Work begins this week to create a permanent home for the Olympic Cauldron seen around the world during the Vancouver 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games.
The cauldron at Jack Poole Plaza at the Vancouver Convention Centre’s West building will remain in place, where it will be lit again on special occasions. A reflecting pool will surround the cauldron. The cauldron site will be closed over the next few weeks for construction, and will reopen in June.
The cauldron was provided by Terasen Gas through a legacy investment and partnership with the Vancouver Organizing Committee (VANOC) to be lit during the 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games and remain permanently in Vancouver for the benefit of B.C. residents and visitors alike. With the Games now complete, the BC Pavilion Corporation (PavCo) takes over operation and maintenance of the cauldron as a permanent landmark at Jack Poole Plaza.
