The Building

Perched on Vancouver's urban waterfront, with the North Shore Mountains and the west coast sky as a backdrop, the Vancouver Convention Centre is an integral place where members of our community, our country and our world come together to meet and do business.

In April 2009, the extraordinary West building of the Vancouver Convention Centre opened to the world. Built over both land and water, with floor-to-ceiling windows throughout, the building is the crowning centerpiece of Vancouver's spectacular waterfront. From the breathtaking "living roof" to our commitment to "green" design and technologies, the entire facility is in harmony with its natural surroundings and the myriad of people who come through its doors.

The Art Project at the Vancouver Convention Centre will be a showcase of local and international art that tells the stories of the people who built this city and this province over the past 150 years.

Mark Reddington, FAIA

Partner, LMN

Mark Reddington was the Lead Designer for the Vancouver Convention Centre West project in Vancouver BC, Canada. The design of the Vancouver Convention Centre West knits with the downtown core, contributing to the evolution of the community's culture and evoking a unique experience of place through the architecture. The building form creates view corridors from the city's urban core that extend through to the water, capitalizing on the centre's location at the end of two major downtown streets. From points within the building, the building also frames views into the urban setting.

Mark is widely recognized for his innovative and integrative designs of civic places that are highly functional and contextually engaging. His award-winning designs of music buildings and performing arts schools on higher education campuses, concert halls, performing arts centers, and convention centers across the country and in Canada have established the firm as a national leader in public building design. His work has been published nationally and internationally throughout Europe and Asia. The prominence and significant public impact of his work is demonstrated by widespread acclaim not only from architecture critics, but also urban design writers, music and arts experts, technical journals, accessibility advocates, broadcast media, and civic organizations.

Mark received his architectural training at the University of Cincinnati. His professional affiliations include the American Institute of Architects and the United States Institute of Theatre Technology. Mark's design leadership has resulted in projects have been widely recognized with over 120 awards. In September 2003, L'Arcaedizione released a monograph on the work of LMN. He is a frequent presenter and awards jury member for universities, and civic and professional organizations throughout the United States.
